The 2009 Ribs ‘n’ Soul Festival will welcome tens of thousands of enthusiastic festival goers to this years event. Its back and it’s hotter than ever! The Ribs ‘n’ Soul Festival, will bring three days of outstanding mouth watering barbecue, live entertainment and consumer exposition to the Philip A. Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit. This highly anticipated event has hosted more than 2.3 million attendees in its 13-year history and it continues to attract tens of thousands annually. Attendees eat, drink, shop and revel in a festive atmosphere while enjoying the sounds of musical greats. This year’s lineup will be as star-studded as ever with Grammy Award and American Music Award winners The Emotions headed up the fantastic entertainment line-up. In addition to the great musical line-up the 2009 event will feature, Art on the River, Business Expo, African Village and much more. On Sunday afternoon August 2nd festival goers will experience the inspirational Rev. Dr. E.L. Branch and Third New Hope Baptist Church as they present the ‘Sermon on the River’ from 12 noon – 2:00 p.m., followed by a Gospel Showcase featuring talented gospel artists. A major highlight of the event is the Ribbers, creating the best barbecue ribs, chicken, and other delectable dishes to satisfy the appetites of attendees. The Ribbers will again compete in the “Rib Cookoff” competition to determine the Ribs ‘n’ Soul’s “Best Ribs and Best Sauce”. This year the Ribs ‘n’ Soul Festival supports the Matrix Human Services a 501c3 organization that is changing lives in this community.

Hart Plaza. This highly anticipated event has hosted more than 2.3 million attendees in its 13-year history and it continues to attract tens of thousands annually. Festival goers eat, drink, shop and revel in a festive atmosphere while enjoying the sounds of musical greats. This premiere summer attraction includes two entertainment stages. Heading up this years exciting entertainment line-up is three ladies of sophistication, style and soul…The Emotions!!! The Emotions with many hits such as, Don’t Ask My Neighbor, Key To My Heart, Best Of My Love and many more, have garnered many awards over the years including America’s prestigious Grammy Award and the American Music Award. Preferred seating and VIP tickets will be available for purchase throughout the weekend for the main shows on both Saturday and Sunday evening. In addition to the national headliners there will be plenty of local talent throughout the weekend. The Ribs ‘n’ Soul Festival boasts the best ribs this side of the Mississippi. The Rib Cook-off where chefs smoke, grill and season ribs to perfection is a tasty competition taking place on Sunday. Chef’s from near and far travel to Downtown Detroit to contend for this sought after award. This year 12 grillers will compete for the “Best Ribs” and “Best Sauce” title. The Ribs ‘n’ Soul Festival lives by the motto, “Ribs ‘n’ Soul, It’s For The People, We Treat Everyone Like Family”. “This attitude is our culture and is the reason why we garner the respect of our vendors, musical artists and attendees, says David Underwood co-producer of the event. “We want to make the experience a memorable one for all who attend and support the festival.” The 2009 event will again feature throughout the weekend, Art on the River, African Village, an exciting Business Expo and the Ribs ‘n’ Soul Kid’s Zone. Also on Sunday, the festival will feature “The Food for the Soul Gospel Showcase.” The inspirational Rev. Dr. E. L.
